Toyota Named the Best Global Green Brand

Toyota has long been associated with some of the most fuel effecient vehicles in the industry such as the iconic Toyota Prius. Now Interbrand, a leader in brand management, has released a list of firms that best represent the "green" label.

Toyota nabbed the top spot, a signfificant improvement over the 11th spot it held last year. Many consumers would think this is due to the Prius, but Toyota's environmental initiatives have moved well beyond one car. The report also recognizes the automaker's recent collaboration with the electric-car firm Tesla, and company-wide initiatives to preserve the environment and become more energy efficient as well.

The other top 5 firms were not automakers, and were made up of companies like 3M and Siemens. The closest firm in the industry was Volkswagenm which took sixth place and Honda, which clocked in at seventh place. For additional rankings, you can check out the Best Global Green Brands 2011.
