How P2 Technology Will Make the Toyota Prius More Affordable

With the recent addition introduction of a variety of new and incredibly fuel efficient vehicles vehicles like the Chevy Volt and Chevy Cruze Eco, hybrid cars like the Prius almost seem old hat. Not so fast, though, as engineers are looking at a variety of new technologies to help push the envelope of fuel efficiency even further at an amazingly fast pace. Hydrogen fuel cells and new toyota prius battery chemistries will certainly be game changers in coming years, assuming that they get here fast enough.

One of the most important developments in hybrid cars is the ability for automakers to drive the price of each model down. Presently, Toyota Prius batteries are expensive to produce and the result is a premium on the price of the car for the consumer. The new parallel two-clutch systems (hence the name P2) may provide 95 percent of the fuel efficiency benefits of an expensive two-motor system, like the one in the Toyota Prius, but at one third of the present cost.

Manufacturers like Toyota who have made a substantial investment in hybrid technology are currently ahead of the game. P2 systems will help drive the new hybrid standards, increase the fuel efficiency of each hybrid vehicles and lower the cost for the consumers. As engineers continue to make break throughs, we will continue to see expanding
